Burning Earth Extinction Rebellion

BURNING EARTH (2019)

Activist projection for the climate change protests in London, October 2019.

Extinction Rebellion (XR) Hackney

Nelson's Column in Trafalgar square - a memorial to bloody warfare - was reduced to a burning stump, a warning to the present using projected moving image. Entirely powered by batteries charged by solar panels on site the image lasted only until the stored energy from the day ran out. The statement was made for the Extinction Rebellion 'Burning Earth' demonstrations at Trafalgar Square designed to highlight the human destruction of the natural world, this projection additionally visually reduced the phallic form of the column into a comparative stub.

Project developed with and enabled by numerous volunteers from XR Hackney / XR Haringay / XR Bristol. including Nova Dando (animation).
